Bang & Olufsen is honouring one of the world’s greatest cities, New York, with a limited-edition portable wireless speaker. The Beosound 1 New York Edition aims to capture the NYC skyline with its graduation in colour from piano black to aluminium.
The process of capturing this unique gradient demonstrates the capabilities of Bang & Olufsen’s aluminium factory. The parts used in the speakers are milled, polished and anodized in an electrochemical treatment that forms a durable oxide on the material surface.
Due to the labour-intensive nature of this process, only 1,200 pieces of the Beosound 1 New York Edition will be produced.
The conical body of the Beosound 1 allows for 360 dispersion of sound. By hovering slightly above the ground, it allows the bass notes to emanate from beneath while housing an acoustic lens at the top of the speaker.
It also comes with Google Assistant built in and makes use of Bang & Olufsen’s advanced acoustic echo-cancelling technology and five built-in microphones that constantly analyse incoming audio and differentiates it from its own output.
Beosound 1 is a portable sound system that is compatible with leading streaming technologies such as Google Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2 and Bluetooth. It can function as a stand-alone speaker or be integrated into a multi-room system.
Additionally, it contains a built-in rechargeable battery with up to 12-hours of playback time.
