How to Use Siri to Play Spotify Music on iPhone

Apart from being by far the best music app in the world, “Spotify” is also feature-packed. But the one feature that it had lacked for years is the support for Siri. That long wait has eventually ended on a good note.

In what could bring a sweet smile on many faces, the popular music app has finally got the support for Apple’s virtual assistant. That means you can now use Siri to Play Spotify music on your iPhone and iPad.

With iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, Apple has allowed Siri to work with third-party music apps. So, you can take advantage of this feature to not only play and control Spotify but also other music streaming services like Pandora.

One more thing, make sure you have updated the music app to the latest version before getting started (App StoreTodayProfileAvailable Updates section). With that said, let’s set up Siri to play music from Spotify!

How to Play Spotify Music with Siri in iOS 13 and iPadOS

Step #1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Open Settings App on iPhone
Step #2. Now, scroll down and tap on Spotify. Then, choose Siri & Search.

Step #3. Next, turn on the switch for “Use with Ask Siri“.

Now, quit the Settings app.

Do note that the apps you use with Siri may send certain information like contacts and other data to Apple.

Side note: When you try to use the Siri Spotify command for the first time, you will need to allow the virtual assistant to access your Spotify data. Simply tap on “Yes” in the popup and you are ready to go.

Going forward, you can play and control music from Spotify using Siri. As for commands, they are all generic. If you have played Apple Music using Siri, chances are you already know them all. Keep in mind, the freemium version of the music app may not work with all the commands.

You can use the following Siri Spotify Commands on your iPhone, iPad, AirPods, CarPlay, and of course HomePod via AirPlay!

Note: Add the “Hey Siri” phrase at the beginning of the following commands. Like “Hey Siri, play music on Spotify.”

  • Play (Song name) on Spotify
  • Play My Music on Spotify
  • Play My Liked Songs on Spotify
  • Play/Shuffle (Playlist name ) on Spotify)
  • Play/Shuffle (album name ) on Spotify)
  • Play/shuffle (Artist Name) on Spotify
  • Play (genre) music on Spotify

Use Siri Commands to Learn About Music

  • What song is this?
  • Who sings this?
  • What year did this song come out?
  • Tell me more about this artist.
  • Who plays guitar on this
  • Who plays the violin in this song?
  • Who plays bass on this?
  • Who plays drums on this?:

Control Spotify Music Using Siri

  • Stop
  • Pause
  • Previous track
  • Skip this song
  • Raise the volume
  • Lower the volume

So, that’s how you can play and control Spotify with Siri on your iOS or iPadOS device.

Wrapping Up…

For those unfamiliar, this change has happened in the backdrop of Spotify’s antitrust arguments against Apple. The music-streaming service had alleged that the Cupertino-based company is harming consumer choice and stifling innovation through the biased rules it enforces on the App Store.

Without going deep into the antitrust arguments, I would say that the decision to let Siri work with other music apps that compete with Apple’s own music service is going to benefit millions of iPhone and iPad users. So, I give a thumbs up to this move.
