LodgeNet, one of the largest interactive TV and broadband provider to hotels, and Panasonic, announced a partnership in which Panasonic will provide plasma TVs for LodgeNet’s HDTV platform for HD free-to-guest and video-on-demand services. To do this, Panasonic will adopt Pro:Idiom premium content copy protection technology to accommodate LodgeNet hotels with HD premium satellite and VOD entertainment using that security standard.
Pro:Idiom uses the 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and supports digital video and data formats recognized by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC). When integrated with LodgeNet’s Secure Conditional Access (SCA) system, Pro:Idiom protects satellite-delivered programming and video-on-demand content against piracy at every point in the distribution chain to the TV display.
And, in a separate announcement a day later, LodgeNet announced the same agreement with Sharp, but for Sharp’s AQUOS LCD HDTVs.
