Retail hardware that works on the shop floor
Shoppers judge a store in seconds. A wobbly tablet, a kiosk in the wrong spot or a blank screen in the window says more about your brand than any promotion.
We supply the hardware your POS, product information and self-service systems run on: counter mounts, tablet enclosures, floor stands, wall mounts and media players. It works with whichever POS or retail platform you've chosen.
Built for Busy Stores
What retail stores need
Retail is tough on hardware. Devices are used by staff and customers all day, moved around for promotions and store resets, and sit in open areas where anyone can pick them up.
Four things come up in almost every store: security, so a tablet can't walk out the door. A clean, on-brand look, because the hardware is part of the fit-out. Customer-friendly height and angle, so shoppers actually use the screen. And flexibility, so displays can move when the layout changes.
Most stores are leased, and many are inside shopping centres with strict fit-out rules. That makes clamp mounts, freestanding floor stands and PoE more practical than drilling and running new power.
Three places to get it right
Most stores use tablets in three places: at the counter, on the shop floor and on the wall or in the window. Each has its own hardware decisions, and getting them right before the fit-out saves costly changes later.
At the Counter
Counter and POS mounting
If customers sign, tap or enter details on the same screen staff use, you need a rotating mount. A fixed mount means turning the whole device every time, and staff soon get tired of it.
Counter space is valuable in retail, especially near the till where impulse products sit. A slim counter mount or a through-counter fixing takes up far less space than a weighted base.
Plan the cable path before you fix the mount. A cable running across the counter looks untidy and eventually gets pulled.
On the Shop Floor
Self-service kiosks and mobile POS
A product information kiosk lets shoppers check sizes, colours and stock without waiting for staff. An endless aisle tablet lets them order items that aren't on the shelf, so you don't lose the sale. Both work best on a floor stand near the products they relate to.
Set the screen at a comfortable height for standing shoppers, and make sure it's reachable for wheelchair users. A kiosk that's awkward to use is a kiosk nobody uses.
For queue busting and staff stock lookups, use roaming tablets in protective cases with a hand strap, and give them somewhere to charge between shifts.
On the Wall
Digital signage and promotions
A screen in the window or behind the counter keeps promotions, new arrivals and seasonal campaigns in front of shoppers without reprinting posters. Use a commercial display rated for your trading hours, not a consumer TV.
For multi-store retailers, the media player matters most. A commercial player like Qbic lets head office schedule campaigns and push them to every store at once, so each store shows the same message on the same day.
Window displays need extra brightness to compete with daylight, and good ventilation, because direct sun behind glass causes overheating.
Choosing the right hardware
Counter mounts and enclosures
Counter mounts and enclosures
A locked enclosure on a counter mount protects the tablet, blocks the ports and buttons, and keeps it at the right height for staff and customers.
Fixed or rotating
Fixed-angle mounts suit staff-only screens like stock lookup at the back counter. Rotating mounts suit anywhere a customer signs up, pays or checks their details.
Fixing options
Through-counter mounts hide the cable and save space. Clamp mounts suit leased stores where you can't drill. Weighted bases are easy to move for store resets.
Enclosures are cut for a specific device model, so check your exact tablet model before ordering. Browse desk and counter mounts.
Floor stands and kiosks
Floor stands and kiosks
A floor stand turns a tablet into a self-service point anywhere in the store, without needing a counter or wall.
- Choose a weighted or bolt-down base. A stand that rocks when touched feels cheap.
- Set the screen height for standing shoppers, and check it works for wheelchair users.
- Use PoE or internal cable routing, so there's no loose cable on the floor.
- Place it near the products it supports, not in a corner.

Click and collect points
Click and collect points
A tablet at the collection point lets customers check in for their order without queuing at the main counter.
- Place it near the pickup shelf or desk, and make it easy to find from the entrance.
- Use a counter mount or floor stand at standing height, with a locked enclosure.
- Lock the tablet to your check-in app so customers can't browse elsewhere.
Our tablet enclosure guide covers app lockdown and power options in detail.
Brand and fit-out
Brand and fit-out
In retail, the hardware is part of the store design. It should look like it belongs there.
- Choose a finish that matches your fit-out, so the tablet blends in with the counter or display.
- Use slim, low-profile mounts where the product should be the focus, not the stand.
- Hide cables inside the mount or fixture. Visible cables make even a premium store look unfinished.
- Keep the same mount style across the store, so every touchpoint feels consistent.
Brands like Bouncepad, Heckler and Compulocks offer different looks, from minimal counter stands to fully enclosed kiosks. Ask us which range suits your store design.
Cases for mobile POS
Cases for mobile POS
A roaming tablet needs a case that survives drops and constant handling.
- Corner protection, because most drops land on a corner.
- A hand strap so staff can carry it on the shop floor.
- Access to the charge port, so it can go straight on to charge between shifts.

Digital signage and media players
Digital signage and media players
A digital screen has three parts: the display, the mount and the media player that runs the content.
Display. Choose a commercial panel rated for your trading hours. Window positions need a high-brightness panel.
Mount. Use a commercial-grade wall mount with VESA fitting.
Media player. Qbic players are built for 24/7 use, with scheduled content, remote updates and a watchdog timer that restarts the player if it freezes. That means no blank window screen on a Saturday morning. Read more about watchdog timers.
Rolling out across multiple stores
Rolling out across multiple stores
For retail groups and franchises, consistency matters as much as the hardware itself.
- Standardise. Use the same mounts and enclosures in every store, so staff, training and spare parts are the same everywhere.
- Plan for future devices. Enclosures are cut for specific models. Choose a tablet that will still be available as you open new stores.
- Check stock. Ask us which models we expect to hold long term, so later stores match the first.
- Manage centrally. Device management and remote media players let head office update every store without site visits.
Retail groups can become a wholesale partner for volume pricing on rollouts.
Security for customer-facing tablets
Security for customer-facing tablets
Any tablet the public can touch needs to be secured.
- Use a locked enclosure, so the tablet can't be removed or unplugged.
- Fix the mount to the counter, wall or a heavy base, not just adhesive pads.
- Keep kiosks within sight of staff where possible.
- Secure demo devices for sale separately, with tethers or display security.
Lock the tablet to one app and use PoE or hidden cabling, so it can't be unplugged. Our open display security guide covers protecting demo stock, and the tablet enclosure guide covers lockdown and power.

What to specify
Each part of the store needs different hardware. Here's what to look for, and what most often gets missed.
| Application | Hardware | Key specification | Most commonly missed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Counter POS | Fixed or rotating counter mount with a locked enclosure | Rotation if customer-facing; slim footprint | Cable path decided after the mount is fitted |
| Product info or endless aisle kiosk | Floor stand with locked enclosure | Weighted base; accessible screen height; PoE | Placed away from the products it supports |
| Loyalty or sign-up station | Counter mount or floor stand | Customer-facing angle; app lockdown | Customers able to exit the app |
| Mobile POS and stock lookup | Protective case with strap | Corner protection; charging point between shifts | WiFi tested at the counter, not across the floor |
| In-store promotion screen | Commercial display, wall mount and media player | Rated for trading hours; scheduled content | Consumer TV and USB stick updates |
| Window display | High-brightness commercial display | Higher brightness; heat management behind glass | Direct sun causing overheating |
| Staff back-of-house tablet | Wall mount or desk mount | Ports covered; easy to clean | Left unsecured because it's "staff only" |
Common questions
Where should I start?
Where should I start?
Start with the job the tablet needs to do, not the hardware:
- Who uses it? Staff only, or customers too. Customer-facing tablets need stronger security and app lockdown.
- Where in the store? At the counter, on the shop floor, at a collection point or in the window.
- Which device? Enclosures are cut for a specific model, so check the exact model, not just the screen size.
- How many stores? If you're rolling out to more than one, choose hardware you can repeat everywhere.
If you're fitting out a new store, talk to us before the joinery is built. Power and mount positions are cheap to plan at build stage and expensive to retrofit.
Can customers use the kiosk without staff help?
Can customers use the kiosk without staff help?
Yes, if it's set up well. Lock the tablet to your kiosk app, set the screen at a comfortable height, and place it where shoppers naturally stop. A locked enclosure keeps the device secure when staff aren't nearby.
Will the enclosure fit our next tablet?
Will the enclosure fit our next tablet?
Not always. Secure enclosures are cut for a specific model, and new generations often change size, camera or button positions. Some ranges let you swap just the enclosure and keep the mount, which makes upgrades cheaper. Check before you replace your devices.
Can I move my displays during store resets?
Can I move my displays during store resets?
Yes. Floor stands and weighted bases can be moved easily, and most counter and wall mounts can be refitted. If you reset often, choose freestanding options over fixed ones.
