What happens if someone tries to cut the cable on a box wrap?

Box wraps are fitted with a battery-powered alarm module. When the ratchet button is engaged to tighten the cable, the alarm circuit is armed and a short chirp confirms sufficient battery power. If the cable is cut or the housing is forcibly opened without an authorised detacher, the alarm emits a loud siren - typically 90 dB or above - deterring theft and alerting staff. Batteries are accessible via a compartment on the underside of the unit and can be replaced when depleted.

What is the difference between auto-retracting and manual box wraps?

Auto-retracting box wraps use an internal spring mechanism to automatically wind the cable back into the housing once detached at the point of sale, keeping the checkout area tidy and reducing staff time. Manual retractable wraps require the cashier to wind the cable in using a small handle or dial. Auto-retracting models are generally preferred for high-volume checkouts, while manual models may be a lower-cost option for stores with lighter transaction volumes.

How are box wraps removed at the checkout?

Box wraps are removed at the point of sale using a dedicated spider wrap detacher. The cashier inserts the detacher key or tool into the release slot on the box wrap housing, which disengages the ratchet and allows the cable to be unlooped from the product. The wrap can then be stored for reapplication. Standard magnetic hard tag detachers are not typically compatible with box wrap releases - a specific spider wrap detacher tool is required.
